Taxation and Tax Exempt Organizations
Our firm’s tax practice covers all areas of federal, state and local taxation. We are also prepared to address the US and Hawaii tax aspects of international transactions and the Hawaii state tax aspects of interstate business transactions.
We work with our clients in planning and structuring transactions to achieve optimum tax results consistent with the clients’ business objectives. In many cases clients come to us for representation after they are notified that a tax audit is being conducted – we are prepared to help either before or after the key transactions occur.
We also assist nonprofits in obtaining tax-exempt status and dealing with other tax issues. This work is done in collaboration with other attorneys in our firm who counsel nonprofits on corporate governance, restructurings and reorganizations, and employment law matters.
Our firm includes three attorneys who also hold licenses as Certified Public Accountants. Our attorneys have been active in the community, teaching continuing professional education courses for CPAs and other attorneys, speaking on tax topics, and serving on boards and commissions including the board of directors of the Hawaii Tax Foundation and the Tax Review Commission of the State of Hawaii.
